Anhelo Restaurant Video Shoot w/ Fuji X-T3

One of my first real go arounds using the Fuji X-T3, Atomos Ninja V and Ronin S

Scallop Dish Youtube Thumbnail.jpg

While building my video production portfolio, I reached out to Chef Ivan at Anhelo Restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona. We were able to collaborate and produce one of my first pieces using my full blown video set up including my DJI Ronin S, Fuji X-T3 w/ 16-55 F2.8 lens, Atomos Ninja V along with my lighting and audio set up.

All things considered, I was pretty satisfied with the results, and so was Ivan!

Check out some of the behind the scenes shot by my friend Abu.

Camera nerd ?

Original footage was shoot in Fuji FLog, 4:2:2 10 bit externally to an Atomos Ninja V. Color corrected and graded in Final Cut Pro X with a modified version of Fuji’s “Eterna” LUT sprinkled on top.

One day and two distinctly different locations for this shoot with Jasmine Nicole.

First up, this unsuspecting and surprisingly golden cornfield just outside of Marana, Arizona.

We made a short drive to downtown Tucson and Jasmine made a quick change into this sporty 2 piece. Sunset was fast approaching so we had find some areas not covered in shade by the surrounding high-rise buildings.

Devils Bridge, Sedona Arizona

Sedona Arizona Day trip with my homie Wiggins

My friend Wiggins and I went to check out Sedona, Arizona which is about 2 hours from the Phoenix valley specifically, Devils Bridge. We drove a majority of the hike-able trail as there isn't much more to gain by taking it on foot. If you have a capable vehicle, I recommend driving it too as your feet will thank you later and you'll spend less time in the AZ sun!

The road was relatively tame, but I would recommend an SUV with decent ground clearance as there are some formidably sized boulders and drop offs. The entrance has warning signs and recommends 4x4 with high ground clearance. My 4Runner has a 2.5 inch lift with 32" all terrain tires and did just fine :)

The scenic 10 minute drive gave us a head start over a majority of the crowd, so the last leg of the trail was pretty quite.

One of many witnessed "Simba" treatments

Once we got to Devils Bridge, there was a line of people waiting to cross and take photos though it did move quickly.

It really is an interesting rock formation, smaller in scale than I originally anticipated however, still striking in appearance.

Wiggins took some photos of me crossing as I took some video. Check out my view of bridge crossing.
Bonus: I miss a step and my heart skips several beats.

By the time we left, foot traffic had definitely picked up. If this was a sign of what the rest of Sedona looked like, we were probably going to have to stay away from other tourist heavy areas.

We went to to much quieter spot where, other than an elderly couple and their local guide, we had it all to ourselves. It was  surprisingly windy but made for some nice action in Wiggins' dreads and clothing.

Wiggins always has good energy and it shows, naturally. Never a dull moment with this guy.

It was still early in the day but we wanted to leave before traffic picked up and still have enough time to long board once we got back into the valley. Another successful day trip for sure!  Peace out, until next time.

Fresh Powder at Arizona Snowbowl

A short trip to Flagstaff, Arizona a day after fresh snowfall with my good friend Taniah

"Arizona" and "Snow". Two words you might not immediately associate with each other but it does snow here! My friend Taniah and I headed up north to do some exploring after some fresh snowfall in Flagstaff, Arizona.

A 2.5 hour drive from the Phoenix valley and we decided to check out Snowbowl, where EVERYBODY was taking advantage of the snowfall.

Going up!

We bought tickets for the gondola which would give us an open view of Flagstaff. It was much chiller than expected, especially as we gained altitude. I could feel the winding biting at my face, hands and occasionally my torso when my jacket rolled up. The best part is, I'm scared of heights and I must've misjudged this one because oh sh*t!

The moment Taniah found out me and heights don't really mesh

Going down wasn't really any better, if you couldn't tell just by looking at my face in the video thumbnail. Trust me, I'm hollering but it gets drowned out in the wind.

Ariel view of Flagstaff from the ski lift

After the intense-to-me ride and a bird's eye view of Flagstaff, we decided to check out one of the forest roads on the way back down the mountain.

The quick pit stop gave us the chance for a few shots.

As we drove the backside of the mountain, the snow began to turn into slush and into a pasty mud in some areas. Then, as the sun was setting the the paste was freezing over into ice! Cars and even other 4x4 trucks were needing to be helped out. But not Beast Mode (My 4Runner :p), not Beast Mode!

Unfortunately, the forest road I wanted to drive down was closed. From the northside, it descends along the mountain, with breathtaking views. We just went as far as we could and got a couple more quick shots.

Excuse my extremely chapped lips. It was frigidly chilling and dry on the ski lift and I was doomed from there, but Taniah managed to get some shots of me.

I managed a behind the scenes shot of her taking my photos. She really had to work to get those angles!

We had to be back in the valley so we called it a day. An interesting trip for sure! Until next time :)

Optical Overdose | Yosemite Falls, California

A snowy experience at the legendary Yosemite Falls, California.

Each place I visit carries its own unique atmosphere that I've learned to appreciate however, few can compare to the tranquil yet exhilarating experience of Yosemite Falls, California as I would soon find out.

A *short* 10 hour drive led me to meet up with Ray and Cerina in Coarsegold, California, where Ray was going to make the rest of the drive to Yosemite Valley since he had an SUV with snow chains. It snowed 3 consecutive days prior and snow chains were a must, per park requirements.

The hazardous road conditions made our voyage longer than expected and the sweeping turns of Yosemite began to take their toll on Cerina. The metal snow chains made a distinctly violent trashing sound as they crashed into the pavement below us, reminding us of their presence by rumbling exponentially louder if Ray tried to accelerate by even just the smallest amounts.

Yosemite_Falls_Yosemite_Valley_Jason_Goldsmith_JasGold_Photography.jpg

"It was quite the drive as I was feeling nauseous from motion sickness but I was so anxious and excited to get there."

– Cerina

After about 2 hours of crawling through winding, slush covered roads, we reached the western side of Tunnel View and stopped to stretch our legs. Meet Ray and Cerina :)

We had an interesting view of the tunnel from here so we decided to see what kind of shots we could get

We all took in the interesting details of the aged tunnel as we drove through. The stained textures, warm glowing lights and dynamic acoustics were all adding to an already interesting drive. Pulling into a parking area at the end of the tunnel, we were immediately started by the view!

The morning fog rolls through the valley as Yosemite falls calmly roars in the background

Collectively, this was our first time in Yosemite and we had no idea one of the most recognizable photos ops in the park was just on the other side of tunnel!

The sub optimal temperatures and treacherous drive meant we shared the view with only the most dedicated. There were a few photographers huddled along the edge of the view point, some with just as much snow gear to keep warm as they had camera gear to create with.

“We neared the end of the tunnel, there it was. The absolute most beautiful view I’ve ever seen, so majestic!”
— Cerina

Cerina navigates a snowy rock edge as Ray composes his shot with Yosemite Falls spilling into the valley in the background

We decided to head into the valley and as we did the faint but familiar sound of a waterfall was buried beneath the aura, the presence that was Yosemite itself.

Snow covered trees line the vacant Wawona Road of Yosemite Valley

I've seen countless pictures of Yosemite fall but still yet to see it for myself. Now, not only was I about to see it in person, I was about to create a photo to remember the experience forever. I rub my wet, shivering hands together one last time, steady my camera and let Yosemite do the rest.

The sound of rushing water consumes the air as it thunderously crashes into the jagged boulders, morphing into delicate clouds of light mist

A selfie was in order. However, my cold and wet hands made it difficult for my iPhone to recognize my finger's touch so I helplessly try to selfie and oblivious to me, I do! Here's a candid selfie of a frustrated me.

An Optical Overdose, an inexplicable experience, Yosemite is a world of it's own, in a world of it's own!

Azucena Princesa's Floral Palace

Quick shoot at Berridge Nusery With my good friend Elisa and our Model Azucena!

A recent move left my new place absent of plant life so I thought a visit to a nursery would be proper and why not make a short shoot of it! I pitched the idea to my good friend Elisa and she recommend Berridge Nursery and was also able have KS Garner provide some clothing for the shoot. I reached out to Azucena to be our model and it was a perfect match as she loves plants and well, she's named after one!

An overcast day and scattered showers weren't going stop us and once we arrived at the nursery, a quick look around proved we'd have no shortage of unique pockets to shoot in!

Elisa paired her own heels and fedora for this first look with a dress from KS Garner. I quickly dubbed it "The Country Girl" and the nearby roses gave us the perfect place to start. I still had to get set up so I let Elisa do her thing!

iPhone 7 Plus Portrait Mode over Elisa's shoulder as she tests the lighting

Unfortunately, Azu wasn't quite feeling the look on herself but we had plenty of other options to choose from. While Elisa reviewed her photos, Azu and I got to work the area for a bit. A quick change into this skirt from KS Garner and Azu's own crop top and I could tell she was starting to get comfortable.

After observing the surrounding, Jason decides to move Azu into the foreground, choosing to keep the roses in the background in order to create soft bokeh out of them

Azucena's nonchalant yet intense gaze into the barrel of Jason's lens

“I love how the skirt felt on me and how flowy it was. People were passing by and staring but I tired to look as relaxed as possible”
— Azucena

We decided it was time to see what else the nursery had to offer so we went into the greenhouse where Elisa was itching to create and she wasted no time doing so!

Elisa focuses in on Azucena

I think part of the beauty of photography is that everybody sees something different, even from within the same space. Here are some of my favorites from Elisa and Azu.

She even managed to get a great shot of me

Jason composes his shot as Azucena calmly takes direction

I didn't plan on sharing these as they are not my favorites but Elisa got such a great behind the scenes shot I feel obligated to!

A late start proved costly as they were closing soon and we had to finish up. It was a calming atmosphere to shoot in and Elisa and Azu made for great company!
